Why automatic processing changed
Browser-only AI was missing edges and failing on phones. Automatic Split now uses the best browser and server models together for tighter object cuts and more reliable results.
Automatic jobs send a downscaled working copy only after you press Start. Photo or artwork precision may use one Replicate API pass, where prediction data expires within an hour. Layersmith stores no working copy; manual edits and exports stay in your browser.
02 · why it's different
Named layers and groups, written directly — opens in Photoshop, Photopea, Affinity, GIMP, and Krita. Plus .ora and PNG stacks for the open-source crowd.
Detection boxes are only the first look. A box-prompted segmentation model tightens each one to the actual object, with a differently trained server model used as a second opinion when needed.
Automatic AI may process a working copy on our servers because browser-only models missed edges and failed on phones. We say when that happens; manual editing and file export remain local.

Start with the automatic split. If it misses an object, edge or line of text, fix that part without starting over. Everything marked free costs no credits; downloads ask for a free account. Everything marked in your browser runs on your own machine and never uploads your image.
Split into layers
One click finds the objects, shows the candidate areas, then tightens every chosen box to the object before cutting it onto a named layer. A second detector adds unusual objects while you choose. Up to 60 objects — fewer on a phone or a very large picture so the browser can hold the finished layers.
